Academic Directorate of Vocational Higher Education Collaborates with FDPNI Launches National Polytechnic Admission Selection

The National Polytechnic Admission Selection Path (SNMPN) was launched in Jakarta in 2022 by the Academic Directorate of Vocational Higher Education and the Indonesian State Polytechnic Director Forum (FDPNI). Forty-four directors of polytechnics from all across Indonesia, principals of Vocational (SMK)/High School (SMA) / Islamic Senior High School (MA)/ MAK schools from all around Indonesia, and Counseling Guidance Teachers attended the hybrid event. The Academic Director of Vocational Higher Education, Dr. Beny Bandanadjaja, S.T., M.T., Chairman of the Director Forum of Indonesian State Polytechnics (FDPNI), Dr. Ing. Ahmad Taqwa, MT, and Mursid Triasmanto, Statistical Analyst Staff of PUSDATIN, Kemendikbudristek, were also present as resource persons.

“Students at Indonesia's SMK, SMA, and MA programs who desire to continue their study have much optimism. Also available is the National Polytechnic Admission Selection (SNMPN), which is a selection procedure for further vocational education. In addition, the State Community Academy (AKN) will join the program next year," said Beny Bandanadjaja, who was present at the same time inaugurating the launch of SNMPN 2022.

Beny also recommended that students be cautious when selecting a study program at the Polytechnic of their choice. "Do not choose the improper study program because the higher education process necessitates suitable input, both in terms of education and expertise. There are numerous popular study programs; however, this continual process will shape graduate traits based on their interests and talents. It is not just ‘go to campus [but without clear goal],'" he added.

SNMPN has served as an alternative route to Polytechnic Vocational College so far. Although the number of registrations reduced from the previous year, this does not suggest that the route is less prevalent. According to data on the number of SNMPN registrants in 2020 released yesterday, 214,507 students applied for the two program pathways available at the time, namely D3 and Applied Bachelor. However, in 2021 the registrar dropped to 128,547 students, but there is only one choice path for the D3 program. For those with Applied Bachelors, the path is to join the LTMPT selection.

“Because applicants for the Applied Bachelor (D4) program cannot join the SNMPN track, this drop is justified. Students interested in enrolling in the Applied Bachelor program are encouraged to participate in the LTMPT selection process, namely SNMPTN and SBMPTN. So it can be said, if the SNMPN pathway is still in demand and even to join the Polytechnic, the community can take advantage of several selection paths according to the needs of each student," explained FDPNI Chair Ahmad Taqwa on the sidelines of the 2022 SNMPN launch event.

Ahmad Taqwa recommended that this year's registrants be more selective in their study program selection. "At the Polytechnic, many academic programs are transitioning from D3 to Applied Bachelor" (D4). As a result, students who want to register should double-check their study program. The goal is to be more alert when making decisions regarding which academic programs to pursue," he continued.

The 2022 SNMPN, as the previous year, is an invitational selection for prospective participants/school students who plan to pursue their diploma three or D3 study in Indonesian State Polytechnics. Meanwhile, the National Selection for State Higher Education Entrance or SNMPTN, coordinated by the Higher Education Entrance Test Institute or LTMPT, will conduct a combined selection at the Applied Bachelor level.

The SNMPN pathway is designed for potential participants/school students who plan to continue their education at Indonesian State Polytechnics and Politanies, with implementation taking place simultaneously by selecting academic and non-academic success portfolios. While pupils are in high school, they are photographed to document their accomplishments.

In terms of costs, prospective participants/students who go the SNMPN path do not have to pay anything. Prospective participants/students from low-income families are also welcome to join the SNMPN pathway. The Indonesia Smart Card Scholarship (KIP) for College is open to prospective participants/students.

Schools can access https://snmpn.politeknik.or.id for additional information and registration. Schools that sign up will be given a username and password to log in, recommend and register their best students. Following that, the school will assign a login and password to the prospective participants/students whom the school has suggested. Registration will be open today, January 3, 2022, through March 18, 2022, for students who will graduate this year.
